What is Kling?

Kling is a closed video generation model developed by Kuaishou Technology, a Chinese short-video company, and first launched in June 2024; Kling 3.0 and the multimodal Kling 3.0 Omni followed on Feb 5, 2026. It produces text-to-video, image-to-video and multi-shot clips through the Kling web app and a metered API, with weights that are not published.

The Kling release notes page lists later point releases without restating every date, so intermediate versions appear as a single row.

Which Kling versions exist and what changed in 3.0?

Kuaishou released the first Kling model in June 2024 and has iterated through Kling 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1, 2.5 and the O1 unified model, according to the release notes. Kling 3.0, announced Feb 5, 2026, added native multi-shot generation of up to 15 seconds and synchronized audio.

Kling 3.0 Omni is the multimodal variant that accepts mixed text, image and video inputs and covers image generation as well. Both are served only through Kuaishou's platform and licensed API resellers; no weights, papers with checkpoints or local inference paths exist.

Does Kling allow NSFW output?

No. The Kling AI Community Policy, effective Dec 12, 2024, lists sexually explicit material, sexual services and sexual language or implications among prohibited content, alongside violence, hate and impersonation. Prompts and outputs are moderated on the server, and accounts can be restricted.

Because Kling is closed and moderated, it cannot be used to produce intimate imagery of a real person the way an unfiltered open checkpoint can. That makes it a useful reference point when a reviewed tool claims a Kling backbone for explicit output: such a claim is inconsistent with the published policy.

How is Kling used in tools we review?

No tool in our rankings names Kling publicly, and given the policy above we would treat any such claim for explicit content with suspicion. Kling's relevance to readers is comparative: it shows what a mainstream, consent-aware video platform prohibits, which frames what the tools we rate do differently.
