Is Wavespeed Safe? Privacy, Payments and Data Retention Checked

Wavespeed publishes a privacy policy, a data retention policy and terms of service. We read all three on Sep 3, 2026 and compared them with the Aug 16, 2026 test session.

Updated: September 3, 2026 Reading time: 4 min

Wavespeed is a pay-per-use model platform that scored 8.7/10 on privacy in our Aug 16, 2026 test: generated files expire within 7 days, deletion runs through a named support email, and payments are card or PayPal with no subscription. The gaps: a children's threshold of 13 instead of an 18+ gate, and non-refundable credits. Consenting adults only (Responsible AI).

What did the privacy score of 8.7/10 actually cover?

Privacy carries 30% of the editor score under How we rate, so it decides most of the 8.5/10 in the Wavespeed review. The table lists what we checked and the source of each answer.

Each row is a document read on the access date or a test observation; the data retention comparison puts the same rows next to 14 other tools.

How long does Wavespeed keep uploaded and generated files?

The retention document is the clearest among the six partner tools. Outputs are temporary and expire within 7 days; account data stays until the account is deleted, payment records as long as the law requires.

“Generated media files are temporary and generally expire within 7 days. This includes generated images, generated videos, generated audio, any other model outputs.”

— Wavespeed data retention policy, accessed Sep 3, 2026

Two caveats cost points: residual backups may persist for a limited period after deletion, and the policy gives no separate figure for uploaded source images. We treat an upload as retained for the full 7-day window.

Are payments, refunds and the age threshold a risk?

There is no subscription, so nothing auto-renews. You top up by card or PayPal, spend per run, and the tier (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Ultra) follows cumulative top-up. Eligible new accounts get a $1 trial credit without a card.

The risk sits elsewhere: credits are non-refundable once purchased. Start with the $1 credit, then buy the smallest top-up that covers a real session; the billing traps guide explains why this still beats weekly plans.

The privacy policy excludes children under 13 — the COPPA line, not an adult-content line — and there is no 18+ gate before the console. That is the main reason privacy scored 8.7/10 rather than higher.

Our own rule applies regardless: consenting adults 18+ only, as set out in the digital consent explainer and the COPPA term.

Questions

FAQ about Wavespeed

Is it safe to pay Wavespeed by card?

Yes, within the limits of any card payment to an overseas operator. Top-ups go through major credit cards or PayPal, there is no subscription or auto-renewal, and the $1 trial credit needs no card. Purchased credits are non-refundable, so small top-ups are the safer habit.

Does Wavespeed store my uploaded photos?

The retention policy read on Sep 3, 2026 says generated media files expire within 7 days and account data stays until deletion. It gives no separate figure for uploaded source images, and residual backups may persist for a limited period, so treat uploads as retained for 7 days.

Does Wavespeed verify that users are adults?

No. The privacy policy only excludes children under 13, the COPPA threshold, and there is no 18+ gate before the console. Consent obligations for depicted people sit in the terms of service. We deducted privacy points for this and apply our own rule: consenting adults 18+ only.

How do I get an image deleted from Wavespeed?

Outputs expire on their own within 7 days. For earlier deletion, or to delete the account, write to the support email named in the privacy policy, which also grants access and correction rights. For non-consensual images of yourself, use our NCII report page and removal guide.
